Urethral Bulking Model
INCONTINENCE TREATMENT TRAINING & PRACTICE MADE EASY
The urology professional education team at Boston Scientific asked Pulse MDM to help them create a custom training kit including an injectable urethra model and everything they needed to train clinicians on the proper injection method for the Coaptite injectable implant. This Injectable Implant is indicated for soft tissue augmentation in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) due to intrinsic sphincter deficiency (lSD) in adult females.
In order to create the most realistic experience the injectable urethra model needed a submucosal layer surrounding the urethra to accept the injectable bulking agent. During injection, the team wanted the clinician to see the submucosal lining begin to rise at the site of injection to confirm they had correctly targeted the location of their injection. Pulse MDM designed a urethra that would be made with translucent materials so that the treatment could be seen easily from either side of the lumen.
Pulse MDM provided urethra lumen samples to the Boston Scientific Professional Education team made of a foam tube lined with synthetic translucent soft tissue. Boston Scientific and Pulse MDM worked together through a number of iterations to produce the desired clinical experience which was a delicate balance of tissue that was soft enough to create a raised area but strong enough to not allow the injected bulking agent to leak out. The consumable was designed to be made economically so the training team would never hesitate to do another demo or offer clinicians the opportunity to try it themselves. Pulse MDM also saw the need for a compact and easy-to-use holder for the consumables that could fit with supplies in a small branded kit.
Clinicians need repeat practice to build clinical skills.
And medical device professional education teams need realistic and convenient vehicles specifically created to provide that practice.
The professional, branded and compact kit contains a holder and 8 urethra inserts providing a way to practice injections and examine the results instantly. Now medical device team members give clinicians hands-on practice with their device and procedure allowing surgeons to repeat their trial and hone their skills for better patient outcomes.
Although this custom model is not available for sale to the public, we are delighted to make you a version that is specific to your unique medical device and procedure. Please use this link to start the process of receiving a model concept; a visual representation of how clinicians and patients will experience your product and procedure. Pulse MDM does not charge for model concepts or the conversations around them so there is no risk to see how we can help you to tell your story in the most engaging and memorable way possible.
Stress Urinary Incontinence Injectable Procedure Overview:
Coaptite Injectable bulking agent is used for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The objective of the procedure is to obtain closure at the bladder neck to mid-urethra by injecting the Coaptite Implant until the lumen narrows.
